Design errors - NEW ZEALAND




This is not 'The Adoration of the Shepheards' by van Hontorst, but another of his paintings 'The Adoration'.
 


1898

Wrong : WAKITIPU - Correct : WAKATIPU. A corrected stamp was issued.
 


1929

At the time this stamp was issued, tuberculosis was still an incurable disease. To some people the message Help stamp out sounded a little bit too hard, so the stamp was reissued with a softer cry : Help promote health.
 


1935

When captain Cook landed at Poverty Bay, his ship was ancored half a mile from the shore, not close as on the stamp. And the man are pushing and pulling the boat in opposite directions.
 


1936

Stamp comemorating a landing of troops at Anzac Cove Gallipoli during the first world war. But the soldier is from a photograph of a 1936 soldier in old uniform, and the beach is actually Karaka Bay, in Wellington harbor.

Whool-laden lorry with the registration number 11-957. But in 1935 new regulations stipulated that a lorry such as thisshould carry the letter H before the nimber.

The boy is the middle spreads his hands to catch a much smaller ball than the one featured on the stamp.

The sign the Treaty of Waitangi was reported by an eye-witness who reported that 'Captain Hobson came in civilian clothes, having no time to don more of his uniform than a cocked hat'. On the stamp however, he his featured in full military uniform.
 


1940

Commemoration of the landing of the immigrants in 1840 from the barques Tory and Cuba, and the ship Aurora. The ships are illustrated with double topsails, which did not come into use until 1855.

The fairy head at the feft food of Peter Pan has been omitted.

The Dominion Monarch had one false funnel, on the stamp however, smoke is coming out of both.

The shadow of this plane is much too big, cannot be larger than the plane itself.

Instead of the three eight-pointed stars with wavy arms, the stamp shows three six-pointed mullets with straight-sided arms.

The whale that is about to be harponed, has a good chance of getting away, as there is no rope attatched to the harpoon.

This is not an error, as Federico Fioro was nicknamed IL BAROCCI.

The 1895 Benz and the 1904 Oldsmobile are veterans (built before 1905), not vintage cars (built beween 1917 and 1933).
