RUSSIA    1958


Stamp issued to celebrate the friendship among the countries that belonged to the communist influence area. The Czechoslovakian flag was not pictured correctly (inverted white and red colours somewhere in the middle of the stamp). A corrected one was issued.



AUSTRIA    1934


After this stamp has been issued, it was discovered that the poor man had inverted ears. Fortunately for him, the stamp has been corrected.



NEW ZEALAND    1985


Cristmas, without H, soon corrected in Christmas



BELGIUM    1962


The name of the first Belgian queen was Louise-Marie, not Marie-Louise. A stamp with the wrong initials ML was withdrawn and replaced by a stamp with the correct L first letter.



GERMANY    1902


Some of those Germania-stamps show DFUTSCHES REICH instead of DEUTSCHES REICH.



PITCAIRN ISLANDS    1957


Instead of the local school, the teacher's house was pictured on this stamp. So they issued a new one, with a corrected mention.



SAINT LUCIA    1936


Instead of COLUMBUS square, stamps were issued with COLOMBUS square. The error was corrected when new stamps of this series were issued.



JAMAICA    1921


The wrongly positioned narrow and wide white stripes on the Union Jack were corrected when this stamp was reissued.



FIJI    1938


An unmanned boat with sail in the wind seemed a little bit too dangerous. So the stamp was redesigned, this time with a sailor in the boat



GERMAN DEMOCRATIC REPUBLIC    1952


Stamp issued to commemorate the composer SCHUMANN. Someone soon discovered that the music shown in the background was written by another composer, SCHUBERT. A new stamp was immediately issued, this time with music composed by Schumann.

Missing black colour on one of the booklets, with as consequence a missing postmark on one of the stamps

UNITED STATES OF AMERICA   


Pane of 20 stamps to pay tribute to famous personalities and events of the Old West. But instead of picturing the African-American cowboy Bill PICKETT, the stamp showed his brother. The mistake was corrected and a new sheet was issued.



SEYCHELLES    1980


The Agalega islands were wrongly added to the Sechelles. This was corrected, together with a better position of the Aldabra-islands.



FIJI    1938


A first stamp showed a map of the islands with the very important 180° longitude line unlabelled. This was corrected two years later.



GUERNSEY    1969


A longitude of 40°30 North would have positioned the Guernsey island near Madrid. A corrected stamp was issued with the correct position 49°30N.



AUSTRALIAN ANTARTIC TERRITORIES    1980


By mistake, the S.Y. THE MORNING was pictured on this stamp instead of the S.Y. NIMROD. A new stamp was issued, with the same name, but this time with the correct ship.

The incorrect inscription 1,10 FRANKEN was soon corrected to 1,10 FRANK on those railwaystamp.



FRANCE    1937


Stamp issued to celebrate the 100th anniversary of DESCARTES' book : DISCOURS SUR LA METHODE. Unfortunately the stamp mentioned DISCOURS DE LA METHODE. The wrong stamp was soon withdrawn, and replaced by a correct one.



INDIA    1911


The incorrect plural ANNAS was corrected to ANNA, when the stamp was reissued.



GREECE    1937


The incorrect mention TYPI…. was corrected into TIPY…..

DEFENCE was corrected afterwards in DEFENSE

Some of those private stamps mention BYBOST instead of BYPOST

MALAWI    1965


When Nyasaland became Malawi, lake Nyasa of course became lake Malawi. This was first forgotten, afterwards a corrected stamp was issued.



BANGLADESH    1983


Visit of Queen Elisabeth to Bangladesh. In 1933 Bangladesh did not yet exist, and Queen Elisabeth was still a child. The wrong date Nov. 33 was soon corrected into Nov. 83



NAURU    1968


Commemoration of the independence of the country. The wrong date 1968 was of course soon corrected into 1960.



MACAO    1998


Stamps issued to commemorate the discovery of the maritime path to India by Vasco da Gama, which took place in 1498, not 1598. The wrong date 1598 was soon corrected into 1498 !



PAKISTAN   


As the value in arabic scripture appeared to be inverted, a corrected stamp was issued.

Do the flowers of the marabunta-tree grow up or down ? They grow up, so a new corrected stamp was issued.

The local currency TOEA is never written with a capital letter. A wrong stamp was corrected and reissued.

When one sheet was discoverd with an inverted yellow colour, the US post office decided to print the same number of wrong stamps to avoid speculation.

A caracter was misspelt in the translation of REVENU, giving it a complete different sense. The stamp was corrrected.

A WALTER LILY of course, does not exist. Why not simply WATER LILY ?

Wrong : Mufflon - Correct : Moufflon. A corrected stamp was issued soon after the error was discovered

When this series was presented to the press, it appeared that one stamp mentioned 'Hundreth' instead of 'Centenary. There was however sufficent time for reprinting with the correct words : Centenary conference.

After Sir, the first name of a person is always used. A stamps mentioning Sir Codrington was corrected in Sir Edward Codrington.

In a series with serpents, the names of 2 serpents were interchanged. He error was corrected, but some stamps … escaped.

ITALY    1961


Pink stamp issued to commemorate the visit of the Italian president to Peru. A wrong map was issued by the designer. To avoid diplomatic incidents, a new grey stamp with corrected map was issued. Some stamps, however, were already in circulation. This stamp, unfortunately for me, is a forgery.



MALAWI    1973


This butterfly was wrongly named EUPHAEDRA ZADDACHI. The decision was taken to issue a new stamp with the correct name AMAURIS ANSORGEI.



MALAYA    1960


The design of this stamp was slightly adapted, as in the first design, nobody was streering the boat.

As the colours of the BURONG Siul bird were unreal, a new stamp with the correct colours was issued.

Cape Bauld was wrongly located on the Nord of Cape Norman, instead of South of it. The error was corrected but another error 'Straits of Belle Isle' instead of 'Strait of Belle Isle' was forgotten.

Missing decoration on the ceremony dress of the Queen. The error was corrected.



ROMANIA    1934


POSTA was forgotten on the original stamp, thus it was not obvious that this was a postal stamp. A corrected stamps was issued some years later.

1951 was wrongly given as the beginning date for the collective farming. This was corrected to 1949 on a new stamp.

In 1956 Mahmud Bagir Ogly Aivazov claimed to be 148 years old. An error in his first name (MYXAMED=Muhamed) was corrected in MAXMYD.

Russia commemorated the american William Foster on a stamp (1881-1961) but unfortunately gave 1964 as the date of his death. The stamp was withdrawn and a corrected version was issued a few weeks later.

POLAND    1938


To commemorate the Polish independence, a stamp was issued with crossed swords, symbols of the Teutonic Knights, trampled by the featured people. After a reaction from Germany, the stamp was reissued, without the swords.

Error in the country name in the local scripture. A corrected stamp was issued.



DOMINICA    1963


The eyes of this local woman seemed a little bit too glazy, so the designer was asked to improve his work before a second issue.



CHILE    1978


The Chilean flag was forgotten on this stamp. This was corrected bu the issue of a new stamp with another value.

General Leclerc had declared that he would not enter Strasbourg again, without the French flag at the top of the cathedral. This was forgotten and afterwards corrected.

Calling the American President F.D.R. was not appreciated by everyone, so the stamp was issued again with his complete name.

Without explanations, the blue color of the cane sugar plants was changed into a more appropriate green.
